Dr. Stephen Hampson - CEO, Management Team
Stephen has a strong track record of working with technology start-ups, helping to create a number of successful companies. He has substantial hands-on experience leading companies in both Europe and New Zealand. His experience with New Zealand start-ups spans seven years and more than 30 ventures, while he has been the Chief Executive of Canterbury Innovation Incubator. Stephen graduated from the University of Canterbury with a PhD in Mechanical Engineering in 1995. This was followed by post-doctoral study at Bath University in the UK.

Miles Hockley - Senior Partner, Management Team
Miles has over 25 years of management experience in IP commercialisation, technology start-ups, strategic management consultancy and international finance. A metallurgist by degree, Miles has been involved operationally with a number of early stage businesses and has experience of building and managing strategic alliances internationally and the raising of equity from private, institutional and corporate investors. Miles graduated from Trinity College, Oxford University with BA Honours in 1979 and MA Honours in 1985.

Tim Chapman - Venture Partner, Management Team
Tim brings valuable skills and knowledge to the team from his prior experience. He was the General Manager of a corporate technology spin-out which successfully negotiated a license for the technology to the world leading company based in Italy. He also has significant general management experience in manufacturing and supplying of products throughout Australasia. Tim graduated from the University of Canterbury with a BCom in Accountancy, Business Administration and Economics. In 1998, he completed an MBA, also at the University of Canterbury.

Jane Hill - Venture Partner, Management Team
Jane is a technology entrepreneur, founding her own software start-up in 2000. The company developed generic configuration management software for mobile telecommunications network operators. This start-up was based on industry experience after working for the UK’s leading mobile operator. Jane also has experience in developing research-based software, having previously worked for the NIWA for five years. Her Crown Research Institute experience and linkages are invaluable.

Matthew Journee - Venture Partner, Management Team
Matthew is a mechanical engineer and has extensive experience leading the development of innovative technologies into commercial
products. His experience spans management of the branch of a nuclear contracting firm to leading a team developing advanced combustion systems. Matthew is an expert on innovation, transforming theory into practice and assisting investee companies with their product development. He also regularly gives innovation workshops.
Matthew completed a Mechanical Engineering degree in 1995 at the University of Canterbury.

Vanessa O'Neill - Venture Partner, Management Team
Vanessa is a highly experienced Sales and Marketing Manager having worked for large corporates in the UK, Australia and New Zealand. Some of her previous companies include The Body Shop UK, Marks and Spencer, Debenhams, Carter Holt Harvey and Progressive Enterprises with her most recent role National Sales and Marketing Manager - Retail and Foodservice for Sugar Australia-CSR, based in Melbourne. Vanessa graduated from UC in 1995 with a Bachelor of Commerce and recently returned to complete her MBA in 2008.

Daniel Gall - Partner, Management Team
Before joining the powerHouse team in 2009, Daniel spent the prior eight years as an investment analyst, working for a privately held investment trust with $100 million under management. The trust is based in the Channel Islands and invests worldwide, with Daniel analysing securities from his office in Christchurch. Daniel qualified as a Chartered Accountant in the UK in 1997, after which he joined a large direct marketing company where he worked as the Financial Accounting Manager and then the Commercial Controller.

Anya Hornsey - Commercial / IP Manager, Management Team
Anya’s key focus is developing IP strategy for Powerhouse portfolio companies. She also conducts due diligence on potential clients,checking freedom-to-operate and the strength of any existing IP position. Anya oversees the full patenting process.As Commercial Manager, her combined role also includes: bookkeeping, process management for investment deals, and investment deal completion. Anya has a BA in Languages from UC which she completed in 1989 followed by a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Administration from Massey in 2002.
Rebecca Kyle - Investor Relations , Management Team
Rebecca has spent the last five years in management positions including marketing management, customer relationship management and account management most recently as the Marketing Manager for the Armstrong Motor Group in Christchurch. Rebecca works part-time and is responsible for investor relations as well as marketing and event management for PowerHouse Ventures.
