Photonic Innovations Ltd closes $1m round

Backing was received from Powerhouse Ventures and private sources in New Zealand and Australia.  Funds will be used to accelerate early sales of the company’s ammonia detection devices in Australia and New Zealand and to develop methane detection devices for use in the mining and petrochemical industries.

About Photonic Innovations

A spin out from the University of Otago, Photonic Innovations has developed laser based gas detection technology for the management of hazardous gases in industrial settings.  Laser based sensors are highly accurate and responsive with no requirement for frequent recalibration or replacement.  This provides industrial users with reliable health and safety solutions and a lower whole life cost compared to incumbent electrochemical technology.  Photonic Innovations is initially targeting the food processing and cold storage industries, where the toxic gas ammonia is used as a refrigerant.
